We are all in this together

Makers of children’s music across the country are taking to the internet to support and engage with families in Alert levels Three and Four.

In this time where all the routines and norms of daily life have fallen away, our children need new ways to anchor themselves. We love that we can use stories and song to speak to their feelings and experiences in these times and equally, give parents and caregivers a well earned cuppa break!

The Kiwi Kids Music Collective is a community of more than 100 New Zealanders making music for Children https://www.facebook.com/KiwiKidsMusic. During this lockdown many of it’s members whilst juggling their own family bubbles have taken to social channels like Facebook and instagram to bring quality live and pre recorded content to support children’s well-being and connection to their wider community.

In our Little Ripples video’s we like to be a place for children to land gently and take comfort from story telling and song. We suggest that finding a show that meets the needs of your child and the people in your bubble is a really valuable tool for getting through lockdown.

There’s something for everyone. When families are unable to get outside, dancing and singing are great ways to harness energy in the morning, some creative activities are great in the afternoon and if you’re after a window check out some of the live streamed bedtime stories.

Weekdays start out with a broadcast from ‘Music with Michal’ at 10am, while interactive songs and activities such as making your own poi are covered by Loopy Tunes of Christchurch at 1pm. 2pm is taken care of by Aucklands Claudia Gunn, then bedtime stories can be shared with Kath Bee of Nelson at 6.45

We have shared a variety of content throughout the lockdown and have enjoyed reaching out to families across New Zealand. It’s lovely to know and feel that we are all in this together and we’ve thoroughly enjoyed the awesome work of our musical colleagues across the country.
